Self-directed learning
Being afforded the time to tinker, experiment, and contemplate is essential for developing our passions in life. Whether through reading and research, writing, or engaging with others, these pursuits require ample opportunity for exploration into our areas of greatest interest.
Our pupils are allocated time for self-directed learning during which they pursue topics of personal interest through research projects of their own design. Pupils also have the choice of signing up for an afternoon workshop on one afternoon a week; these workshops might supplement their current research or it can be used to explore areas outside of the work that they are currently engaged in.
Teachers are readily available to guide the learning process ensuring that it is framed within a meaningful context while still preserving the autonomy of the students. Whether students choose to work alone or collaborate with their peers they are regarded as respected and valued members of our learning community and their individual approaches are honoured, regardless of their form.
